Experience
Trainer/Instructor: Personally trained selected colleagues in England, Germany and Italy to use the coating thickness measurement technique developed for them by this writer. Trained every engineer at a previous employer how to use the FEI Inspect S SEM and EDAX Genesis X-ray Microanalysis system. Trained selected colleagues in the use of a portable X-ray steel alloy sorter. Mathematics/X-ray physics/BASIC Language computer programming: Developed a non-destructive method for determining the thicknesses of one or two coatings on a cemented tungsten carbide substrate by measuring the attenuation of the characteristic x-rays from that substrate as they passed through those layers. Assisted the nuclear engineer in charge in developing a BASIC language computer program for a portable X-ray spectrometer and conducted the first successful field demonstration of the same. I have reached a point in my life when going to work so that some guy I've never met can grow even wealthier than he already is does not constitute a good enough reason to get up in the morning. Sharing my knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with young people, however, is a prospect that I find very pleasing.

Hobbies
The great passion of my life is music, and if I had actually been born with talent, I would be a member of the violin section of The Cleveland Orchestra. I fall to sleep each night listening to classical music and try to spend as much time during the day as I can listening and learning new repertoire. I used to play the violin but that came to an end when I broke my left elbow. Now I satisfy my creative urges by singing in a choir and by doing some composing. The other truly great passion in my life is my family: wife, son, daughter and six grandchildren. I use the term "family" in a very broad sense, for, as far as I am concerned, our little Havanese is also a member of my family. She brings joy to our life. I also spend as much time as I can reading books on American and world history, being particularly captivated by the American Civil War period. Part of my reading time is also devoted to on science (especially cosmology) and also devotional books.
