Experience
I attended Penn State University, where I earned my bachelor's of science in elementary education, with a minor in special education, for which I am certified. My greatest love is working with young students, and am working on earning my reading specialist certificate. I have the opportunity to tutor students when I was in college, including young ELL learners (learning English). I was able to guide them as they worked on homework, and help them understand concepts they needed help with. I have also spent a year teaching kindergarten, and currently work as a substitute for all elementary grade levels. I'm able to tutor a wide variety of subjects, but feel most confident and comfortable working with elementary school students, particularly in language arts. Because I have a passion for reading, I like to pass that forward to my students. When I'm tutoring, I'm aware that children each have their most effective ways of learning, and I keep that in mind as I plan lessons and activities. Meeting students where they are at is the most effective way to help them along, rather than trying to fit them into a one-size-fits-all mold. When not teaching, I enjoy reading, baking, cooking, and staying active.
